Tribe Football Heads to No. 4 Old Dominion on Saturday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary football team will play its final road game of the season when it squares off against No. 4 Old Dominion on Saturday at noon.

The contest will be televised regionally by Comcast SportsNet (Mid-Atlantic, New England, Philadelphia, Bay Area and Northwest).

Live video of the contest will also be available through ODUSports.com, while live stats and live audio will be available at TribeAthletics.com.

Saturday's game will mark just the third meeting between W&M and Old Dominion, as each team has earned one victory. Both matchups have been close, as the Tribe earned a 21-17 victory at ODU in 2010 before falling to the Monarchs, 35-31, last season.

Despite leading late in the fourth quarter at then-No. 11 New Hampshire last Saturday, the Tribe fell to the Wildcats, 28-25, marking its fifth defeat by three points or fewer this season. W&M (2-7, 1-5) owns one of the conference's top-ranked defenses and currently leads the league in passing defense (179.4) while ranking third in total defense (344.1).

Old Dominion (8-1, 5-1) enters the weekend having won its last three games after suffering a 38-14 setback against Villanova in mid-October. The Monarchs lead the CAA in scoring offense (45.6) and passing offense (394.9).

Saturday's game will mark the teams' second meeting as part of the Optima Health Challenge. The Challenge is a running score of all the direct competitions between the two Colonial Athletic Association schools, with a champion being named at the end of the athletic season and receiving the Optima Health Trophy. Additionally, the winner of this Saturday's game will receive the Silver Mace. The scoring system awards 10 points for the overall winner in every regular season ODU-W&M athletic competition (for instance, in football, the winner of the Nov. 10 matchup will receive 10 points; in baseball, the winner of the regular season three-game series will receive 10 points). A total of 120 points (10 points for Football, 10 points for MBB, 10 points for WBB, and 10 points per nine Olympic Sports) will be awarded for 2012-13.  The winning school will be the first to tally 65 points. W&M currently leads the competition, 20-10.
