The William and Mary women's swimming team opened competition at the Hokie Fall Invitational Thursday morning, advancing 11 swimmers to tonight's finals in three events. Of 28 total performances, the Tribe set 26 season-bests and had 10 athletes achieve collegiate-best times.

In the prelims of the 500 free, senior
Caylyn Tate (Sterling, Va.) led the way with a 10th-place 5:00.65. She'll be joined in the B-final by junior
Jen Bentley (Jamestown, N.Y.), with a time of 5:03.23, and freshman
Hannah Vester (Cincinnati, Ohio), who finished 15th overall in 5:04.70.
200 IM
W&M had four athletes advance out of the 200 IM, with two each in the B-final and C-final. Freshman
Lindsey Winston (Henrico, Va.) led the way with a 2:07.01 performance for 11th place, and was followed closely by junior
Devin Henry's (Roanoke, Va.) 2:07.87 for 13th. Rookie
Courtney Mizerak (Manassas, Va.) was 18th overall in 2:08.70, and senior
Emily Bart (Cherry Hill, N.J.) was 21st in 2:09.26.
50 Free
The Tribe also advanced four in the 50 free, including its two A-finals qualifiers on the day. Sophomore
Megan Howard (McLean, Va.) had the fourth-fastest time of the morning with her 23.48 showing, and junior
Sara Shaner (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) stopped the clock in 23.73 to earn the sixth seed. Sophomore
Greta Schneider (Moorestown, N.J.) and freshman
Sara Schad (North Yarmouth, Maine) will swim in the C-final, after timing 24.38 and 24.41, respectively.
Thursday's finals session, which includes competition in the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay, will get underway at 6 p.m.
