WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Former William and Mary women's tennis standout Megan
Moulton-Levy won her first career Grand Slam match at the Australian Open,
recently, advancing to the second round of the doubles draw. With her appearance in the Australian Open, the former Tribe
All-American has played in three of the four Grand Slam events over her
professional career.
Moulton-Levy won an opening round doubles match alongside
partner Mandy Minella of Luxembourg in come-from-behind
fashion on Jan. 16. The duo dropped the opening set, 6-2, to Croatia's
Petra Martic and Kristina Mladenovic of France, before forcing a decisive
third set with a 6-4 victory in the second. Moulton-Levy and Minella outlasted
Martic and Mladenovic in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (10-8), to advance to the
second round. Their run at the Australian Open came to a close with a 6-4, 6-4
setback to the No. 4-seeded Russian team of Ekaterina Makarova and
Elena Vesnina in the round of 32. Makarova and Vesnina are still alive in
the tournament and set for the semifinals later this week.
A six-time All-American at W&M, Moulton-Levy owns nine
career ITF Women's Circuit doubles titles to go along with one singles title
during her pro career. She is currently ranked No. 79 in the World Doubles
Rankings and was ranked as high as No. 78 on Jan. 7, 2013. Earlier this season,
Moulton-Levy teamed with Liga Dekmeijere of Latvia to advance to
the semifinals of the Auckland WTA event, which was Dec. 31-Jan. 5.
One of the most decorated players in W&M and CAA history, Moulton-Levy was
a two-time winner of the ITA National Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Leadership and
Sportsmanship. A four-time CAA Player of the Year, Moulton-Levy won the most
combined (singles and doubles) matches in school history at 249. She still
ranks second in program annals with 125 doubles wins, third in singles wins
(124) and singles winning percentage (.775) along with being fifth on the
doubles winning percentage list (.758). In 2007, Moulton-Levy teamed with 2009
graduate Katarina Zoricic to win the ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship
and advance to the finals of the NCAA Doubles Championship.
