Megan Moulton-Levy Wins at the Australian Open

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Former William and Mary women's tennis standout Megan Moulton-Levy won her first career Grand Slam match at the Australian Open, recently, advancing to the second round of the doubles draw. With her appearance in the Australian Open, the former Tribe All-American has played in three of the four Grand Slam events over her professional career.

Moulton-Levy won an opening round doubles match alongside partner Mandy Minella of Luxembourg in come-from-behind fashion on Jan. 16. The duo dropped the opening set, 6-2, to Croatia's Petra Martic and Kristina Mladenovic of France, before forcing a decisive third set with a 6-4 victory in the second. Moulton-Levy and Minella outlasted Martic and Mladenovic in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (10-8), to advance to the second round. Their run at the Australian Open came to a close with a 6-4, 6-4 setback to the No. 4-seeded Russian team of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in the round of 32. Makarova and Vesnina are still alive in the tournament and set for the semifinals later this week.

A six-time All-American at W&M, Moulton-Levy owns nine career ITF Women's Circuit doubles titles to go along with one singles title during her pro career. She is currently ranked No. 79 in the World Doubles Rankings and was ranked as high as No. 78 on Jan. 7, 2013. Earlier this season, Moulton-Levy teamed with Liga Dekmeijere of Latvia to advance to the semifinals of the Auckland WTA event, which was Dec. 31-Jan. 5.

One of the most decorated players in W&M and CAA history, Moulton-Levy was a two-time winner of the ITA National Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship. A four-time CAA Player of the Year, Moulton-Levy won the most combined (singles and doubles) matches in school history at 249. She still ranks second in program annals with 125 doubles wins, third in singles wins (124) and singles winning percentage (.775) along with being fifth on the doubles winning percentage list (.758). In 2007, Moulton-Levy teamed with 2009 graduate Katarina Zoricic to win the ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship and advance to the finals of the NCAA Doubles Championship.
