WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women's tennis team received the top overall seed in the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Tennis Championship, the league office announced on Monday. The CAA Championship is slated for April 19-21 at the Millie West Tennis Facility in Williamsburg. W&M has won 21 of the 27 CAA Championships in women's tennis with its last crown coming in 2011.
As a result of garnering the No. 1 seed in the league championship, W&M, which is ranked No. 41 nationally and sits at 15-5 on the year, receives the lone bye into the semifinals. The Tribe will await the winner of No. 4 seed Delaware and No. 5 seed Drexel in the semifinals, which is slate for 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. UNCW is the event's No. 2 seed followed by No. 3 James Madison, No. 4 Delaware, No. 5 Drexel, No. 6 Towson and No. 7 Hofstra.
W&M will host the women's CAA Tennis Championship for the eighth time and the first since 2004. The 2013 event will begin with two quarterfinals at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 19. No. 3 James Madison meets No. 6 Towson, while No. 2 UNCW faces No. 7 Hofstra. The final women's quarterfinal is slated for a noon start with No. 4 Delaware squaring off with No. 5 Drexel. Both semifinals are schedule for 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, with the championship to follow on Sunday, April 21, at 10 a.m.
