Anik Cepeda and junior
Hope Johnson were named the Colonial Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week, while juniors
Maria Belaya and
Jeltje Loomans continued to garner ITA national rankings. As a team, the Tribe was No. 49 in the Campbell's ITA National Rankings released on April 16.
Cepeda and Johnson became the third different W&M duo to win the CAA Doubles Team of the Week honor this season and received the honor for the fourth time as a tandem in their careers. They were named the doubles team of the week on three occasions in 2011. Cepeda and Johnson helped the Tribe to the doubles point in matches against No. 39 VCU and Old Dominion during the week. The pair posted an 8-3 victory over the Rams' Cindy Chala and Josefin Hjertquist, before upending the Lady Monarch pair of Juliana Pires and Melissa Esnal Olguin, 8-6, to clinch the initial point of the match in the Tribe's 4-3 win over ODU. Cepeda and Johnson pushed their win streak to four matches, while evening their season mark at 8-8, including 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Belaya and Loomans continued to be ranked among the national top 10 in doubles at No. 9, while Belaya moved up eight spots to No. 116 in the national singles rankings. Belaya and Loomans own a 22-4 mark this season, including seven wins over teams currently among the top 45 nationally in doubles. Belaya upped her season ledger in singles play to 19-11 on the year with her 11 victory at the No. 1 post against ODU.
The Tribe, which is 15-5 on the season, received the No. 1 seed in the 2013 CAA Championship, slated for April 19-21, at the Millie West Tennis Facility in Williamsburg. As a result of garnering the top seed, W&M earned a bye into the semifinals where it will meet the winner of No. 4 Delaware and No. 5 Drexel at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. The CAA Championship match is slated for 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 21.
