The William and Mary men's cross country team powered past five other teams Saturday at the CNU Invitational, as the Tribe's second team put in a strong performance leading up to the championship season. W&M scored 33 points to win the Division I race, finishing three points ahead of VCU. The Rams' Mohamed Adam was the overall winner with a time of 25:35.7.
Leading the way for W&M was sophomore
Jacob Sears (Cary, N.C.), who ran 25:44.1 for second place overall. Freshman
Tom Feeney (Cranford, N.J.) was fourth in 26:01.8, and classmate
Nick Tyrey (Raleigh, N.C.) was sixth with a time of 26:04.2. Sophomore
David Pennesi (Fredericksburg, Va.) was ninth in 26:18.4, and senior
David Gunnerson (Yorktown, Va.) finished out the scoring in 13th at 26:32.4. Sophomores
Ian MacFawn (LaVale, Md.) and
Ricky Cappetta (Stafford, Va.) completed the team's lineup, taking 21st and 22nd respectively, in 26:55.7 and 26:56.1.
The next race on the docket for William and Mary is the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, Saturday, Nov. 2, in Towson, Md. The Tribe is aiming for its 14th-straight conference title.
