Women's Cross Country Rises to No. 18 Nationally

The William and Mary women's cross country climbed back up to No. 18 in the final USTFCCCA Coaches Poll of the season this week, buoyed by a strong performance at the regional meet last weekend.  Regional results provided a big shake-up in the rankings, with just one team holding steady from last week and a new national No. 1 as Providence regained the top billing by a single point over Arizona.

W&M's second-place finish at the Southeast Regional, just 12 points behind new No. 10 Virginia, lifted the Tribe into 18th all alone after a week in a tie for 19th place.  Sophomore Emily Stites (Wyoming, Ohio) led four Green and Gold harriers in the top-20 in the race, winning the program's first-ever region individual championship and carrying the Tribe back to the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row.  The team scored 69 points, best-ever at a region or district meet, and the four all-region runners were also a program record.  W&M has now been ranked in the national polls for 12 straight weeks, the second-longest such run in school history.

W&M will take its shot at the NCAA Championships this Saturday, Nov. 23, in Terre Haute, Ind.  The race will begin at 1:15 p.m. Eastern, and can be seen live on NCAA.com or through live results HERE.
