The William and Mary women's cross country climbed back up to No. 18 in the final USTFCCCA Coaches Poll of the season this week, buoyed by a strong performance at the regional meet last weekend. Regional results provided a big shake-up in the rankings, with just one team holding steady from last week and a new national No. 1 as Providence regained the top billing by a single point over Arizona.
W&M's second-place finish at the Southeast Regional, just 12 points behind new No. 10 Virginia, lifted the Tribe into 18th all alone after a week in a tie for 19th place. Sophomore
Emily Stites (Wyoming, Ohio) led four Green and Gold harriers in the top-20 in the race, winning the program's first-ever region individual championship and carrying the Tribe back to the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row. The team scored 69 points, best-ever at a region or district meet, and the four all-region runners were also a program record. W&M has now been ranked in the national polls for 12 straight weeks, the second-longest such run in school history.
W&M will take its shot at the NCAA Championships this Saturday, Nov. 23, in Terre Haute, Ind. The race will begin at 1:15 p.m. Eastern, and can be seen live on
