Twice as Nice
The Tribe is making back-to-back appearances at the NCAA Championships for the first time ever.  Overall, this is the 11th time that W&M has been represented at the national meet.

Stites FTW
Emily Stites won her first race of the season last week, claiming the Southeast Region title by over 10 seconds with her time of 19:57.5.  It was the first-ever region championship for a Tribe woman, and the sophomore also broke the existing course record that had been set in 2009 by future Olympian and NCAA Champion Sheila Reid of Villanova.  With her win, Stites was named the Southeast Region Athlete of the Year, another first for the Tribe women's program.

Regional Roundup
The Tribe had its best-ever regional showing last week in earning its way to the NCAA Championships.  W&M's second-place finish tied last year's squad for the best place in program history, while the 2013 team's 69 points well surpassed the record of 90 points set back in 1980 at the AIAW Region II meet.  The Tribe also placed four athletes on the all-region team, bettering the previous mark of three in 1990 and 1997.

All-Region Honorees
In addition to Stites, seniors Elaina Balouris (sixth overall) and Michelle Britto, and sophomore Meghan McGovern all earned top-20 finishes to make the all-region team.  For Balouris, it was her fourth year on the team, matching Kathy Newberry '00 as the only four-year runners in school history.  Balouris and Stites are also only the second pair of teammates to earn all-region honors in back-to-back seasons, joining Newberry and Tribe Hall-of-Famer Emily Furia '01 (1998 & 1999).  For both McGovern (12th) and Britto (17th), this marked the first-ever regional award.

Making Conference History
W&M won the Colonial Athletic Association title for the second consecutive year in 2013 and 19th time overall, but the manner in which it was accomplished was quite impressive.  The Tribe swept the top five positions for the first perfect score in conference history, and the largest margin of victory ever (66 points).

More from the CAA
The Tribe's 19 CAA trophies are the third-most for any sports team in the conference, trailing only two more Green and Gold squads.  The W&M women's tennis team has 22 championships, while men's cross country has won 21 titles.

Conference Perspective
W&M is tied with Portland for the fourth-most conference championships in Division I history at 19.  Eastern Kentucky leads the pack with 26 titles, while BYU is close behind with 23 and N.C. State has 21.

Massey Cancer Center 5K Breaks Fundraising Records
The record-breaking was not confined to competition this season, as the Tribe's annual Massey Cancer Center 5K fundraiser collected more than $22,000 in donations.  Over the 20+ year history of the event, W&M has helped raised more than $125,000 for research and treatment at the Massey Cancer Center at MCV, in Richmond, Va.
