Landon was a heartbeat away from winning last year’s NCAA Championship on the rings with his silver medal finish…This year he will once again challenge for the gold by putting together a plethora of world class strength combinations featuring excellent line and full holds ranging from Azarian rolls to maltese and cross positions to straight arm pulls from a hang to a maltese, planche or invert position (Balandins)…His routine will combine these unique strength combinations with excellent Yamawaki swings and either a full twisting double layout dismount or a triple back dismount which has only rarely been performed at world level competitions…Landon has been designated a first team Academic All-American Scholar-Athlete three times by the College Gymnastics Association, earned the William and Mary Provost Award three times, and received the Rock Award as the hardest working gymnast who can always be counted on when the going gets tough…He finished last season as the number two team point scorer and currently ranks first in the all-time W&M records on both the rings and the parallel bars, second on vaulting, and tenth on floor exercise... Jeff Bleau was his coach at Gym Connection 2…Landon is preparing to follow in the footsteps of 30 of our alumni gymnasts in the past 40 years and go on to medical school after he graduates…Over the summer Landon competed in the World Games Trials for men’s gymnastics and this year will be the defending national champion on both the rings and the parallel bars at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships…He is the son of Jim Funiciello and Jeanine Mitchell and will be serving as an elected captain for the second straight season.
