Williamsburg, Va.
- For the fifth-consecutive year, the William and Mary Tribe baseball staff and
head coach Frank Leoni hosted a free clinic for the youth coaches of the
Williamsburg Youth Baseball League (WYBL).
Each member of the Tribe staff talked during the clinic that lasted for
well over two hours, speaking on the various fundamentals of baseball.
"We have built a strong relationships with the WYBL," head
coach Leoni said. " We offer a free
youth clinic in the fall, a free coaches clinic in the winter, and our players
and I participate in the WYBL Opening Day ceremony. We also host a WYBL Day at Plumeri Park each
spring."
The William and Mary Tribe baseball team and its coaches are
heavily involved in the community, spending hours in and around the
Williamsburg area. "Each year, our
team gets re-energized as we try to give something back to those in our
community," Leoni remarked. "We view these opportunities as a chance
to show our appreciation for those in the William & Mary
community. These experiences certainly enrich our own lives."
Along with the coaches' clinic, the Tribe has also
participated in the Diabetes Walk at York High School on October 23 and the
NEDA at William and Mary on October 30.
At both events, the Tribe players and staff helped set up and also
helped direct and encourage participants.
Another recent tradition for the Tribe baseball teams has
been participating at Reading Days at New Kent Elementary Schools. On these days, Tribe team members read selected
stories to and took questions from students in individual classrooms from
pre-school through fifth grade. The Tribe
has also participated in fitness nights at The Arc of Greater Williamsburg, where
the Tribe engages the members in exercises and baseball activities for
two hours at St. Martin's Episcopal Church.
