W&M Men's Track and Field Has Three Earn All-East Honors at IC4A Championships

The William and Mary men's track and field team completed the first day of the IC4A indoor championships on Saturday in 10th place with seven team points and three All-East performers.  Connecticut leads the team race with 17.5 points, 3.5 ahead of Rutgers.  Eight of the Tribe's nine individual performers came away with career-best marks Saturday.

3,000m Run
The day's first finals for W&M was in the 3,000m run, where two earned All-East accolades and four ran career-best marks.  Grad student Lewis Woodard (Charlotte, N.C.) led the way in 8:15.94, taking sixth place and shattering his previous best by more than five seconds.  Sophomore Alex McGrath (Marlborough, N.H.) was next across the line in 8:16.27, finishing seventh for his All-East certificate with a 1.8 second personal-best.  Freshman Ted Richardson (Midlothian, Va.) ran five seconds under his previous best to take 10th in 8:19.64, and classmate Rad Gunzenhauser (Pittsburgh, Pa.) shave two-thirds of a second from his best to finish 14th, in 8:21.71.  Junior Tom Burke (Edina, Minn.) also ran the event, finishing 33rd.

Weight Throw
In the weight throw, senior Zach Jordan (Dublin, Ohio) earned his first All-East award with his second career-best toss in as many meets.  Jordan improved his previous-best by 18 inches to throw 17.99m (59-00.25), and finish seventh overall.  He is just the third athlete in school history to break the 59-foot mark, joining record-holders Adam Williams and Marlon Mattis (59-5 each).

Mile Run
In the mile, the Tribe had three career-best  marks but unfortunately didn't have anyone make it back to Sunday's finals.  Sophomore John Muller (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) led the way in 12th places with his 4:08.89, running more than five-and-a-half seconds faster than he ever had before.  Senior Brian Sklodowski (Newark, Del.) improved by more than four seconds to take 17th in 4:10.20, and junior Liam Anastasia-Murphy (Gloucester, Mass.) lopped a quarter-second off of his best to finish 18th in 4:10.65.

Distance Medley Relay
W&M's distance medley relay team ran a season-fast time by nearly 18 seconds, but did not advance after placing 16th in the preliminary heats.  The Tribe's quartet of Anastasia-Murphy, senior Chris McIntosh (Owings Mill, Md.), senior David Blitzer (Haworth, N.J.), and freshman Josh Hardin (Sterling, Va.) ran 10:03.76 for the place.

The IC4A Championships conclude tomorrow, with William and Mary represented by four athletes in the 5,000m run.
