The William and Mary men's track and field team completed the first day of the IC4A indoor championships on Saturday in 10th place with seven team points and three All-East performers. Connecticut leads the team race with 17.5 points, 3.5 ahead of Rutgers. Eight of the Tribe's nine individual performers came away with career-best marks Saturday.
3,000m RunThe day's first finals for W&M was in the 3,000m run, where two earned All-East accolades and four ran career-best marks. Grad student
Lewis Woodard (Charlotte, N.C.) led the way in 8:15.94, taking sixth place and shattering his previous best by more than five seconds. Sophomore
Alex McGrath (Marlborough, N.H.) was next across the line in 8:16.27, finishing seventh for his All-East certificate with a 1.8 second personal-best. Freshman
Ted Richardson (Midlothian, Va.) ran five seconds under his previous best to take 10th in 8:19.64, and classmate
Rad Gunzenhauser (Pittsburgh, Pa.) shave two-thirds of a second from his best to finish 14th, in 8:21.71. Junior
Tom Burke (Edina, Minn.) also ran the event, finishing 33rd.
Weight ThrowIn the weight throw, senior
Zach Jordan (Dublin, Ohio) earned his first All-East award with his second career-best toss in as many meets. Jordan improved his previous-best by 18 inches to throw 17.99m (59-00.25), and finish seventh overall. He is just the third athlete in school history to break the 59-foot mark, joining record-holders
Adam Williams and
Marlon Mattis (59-5 each).
Mile RunIn the mile, the Tribe had three career-best marks but unfortunately didn't have anyone make it back to Sunday's finals. Sophomore
John Muller (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) led the way in 12th places with his 4:08.89, running more than five-and-a-half seconds faster than he ever had before. Senior
Brian Sklodowski (Newark, Del.) improved by more than four seconds to take 17th in 4:10.20, and junior
Liam Anastasia-Murphy (Gloucester, Mass.) lopped a quarter-second off of his best to finish 18th in 4:10.65.
Distance Medley RelayW&M's distance medley relay team ran a season-fast time by nearly 18 seconds, but did not advance after placing 16th in the preliminary heats. The Tribe's quartet of Anastasia-Murphy, senior
