William and Mary junior Brandon Heroux (Westfield, N.J.) can add "Best Javelin Thrower in the East" to his list of accolades after winning the IC4A title Sunday afternoon at the IC4A Men's Track and Field Championships at Princeton. The trophy-winning throw helped propel the Tribe men's team up the standings to a tie for 15th in the 52-team race, with 19 points. Duke won the IC4A total with 74.5 points to George Mason's 61, and Albany (55), Maryland-Eastern Shore (42), and Cornell (42) rounded out the top five.
Heroux launched the javelin 72.39 meters (237-6) on his first throw, and in the end, that throw helped up across all six rounds. In fact, his second throw of 69.95m (229-6) would also have been enough to win the title by three feet. Heroux's performance today is the second-longest throw in school history, behind only his throw of 73.09m (239-9) three weeks ago at the Penn Relays. It was his third win in a row, and fifth in six competitions this seasons - only two collegiate athletes have beat Heroux in a competition in 2011, but none from the East region.
Heroux and his teammates return to action May 26-28 at the East Prelims for the NCAA Championships, being hosted this year by Indiana University.
