Tribe Men?s Soccer Announces 2011 Schedule

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary Tribe men's soccer coach Chris Norris announced the College's 2011 schedule on Monday.  The slate consists of 18 matches, with eight of those to be played at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.  The Tribe will play seven non-conference matches in 2011, highlighted by games at SMU and at Wake Forest.

William and Mary enters the season as the defending CAA Champions, having advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2010.  The College ended the year with a 15-4-3 record, earning a final season national ranking of No. 9.

On the upcoming season's slate, coach Norris said, "We are very excited about our 2011 schedule.  It is a priority in our program to test ourselves against the best in college soccer and our 2011 schedule reflects this."  He continued, "In addition to our demanding Colonial Athletic Association slate, we will face seven outstanding non-conference programs.  Each of the seven programs finished in the top 89 teams in the final 2010 RPI and all seven have played in the NCAA Tournament within the past two years.  We are certainly looking forward to the challenge."

After a pair of scrimmages against Longwood and Virginia Tech, the Tribe will open the regular season with a rematch on the road against SMU on Saturday, August 27.  Last season, the Mustangs knocked out the Tribe in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, defeating the Tribe, 1-0.

The College will then return to Williamsburg for a pair of games at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.  The Tribe will face St. John's on September 1, before playing host to the Loyola Greyhounds on September 3.  Last season, W&M came away with a 3-1 win at Loyola last season.

The Tribe will then defend their title at the ODU/Stihl Soccer Classic when they play both Monmouth and East Tennessee State in the annual tournament on September 9-11 in Norfolk.  Last year, the College won the tournament for the sixth time in school history after defeating West Virginia and Rhode Island.

After the ODU/Stihl Soccer Classic, the Tribe will open up CAA conference play on the road on September 17 when the College faces UNC Wilmington.  The Tribe then heads back to Williamsburg to face another North Carolina team - UNC Greensboro - on September 20.

A three-game, CAA road trip will be next for the College, as they will face Drexel, Towson, and Georgia State.  The trip begins on September 24 and will end on October 5.  Returning to Williamsburg, the College will take on George Mason on October 8 before going up against rival Old Dominion on October 12.

After facing VCU on the road October 15, the Tribe will head back to Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field to take on James Madison October 19.  In 2010, the Tribe was able to come away with one-goal victories over both the Rams and the Dukes.

On October 22, W&M heads to Delaware to take on the Blue Hens, before heading south to take on perennial ACC-power Wake Forest on October 25.  The College and the Demon Deacons have had a nice rivalry of late, beginning in 2008 when Wake defeated the Tribe in the NCAA Tournament.  After losing to the Demon Deacons in the 2009 regular season, the College claimed a 2-0 win last year.

The Tribe returns to campus for their final two matches of the season, beginning with a rematch of last year's CAA title game against Hofstra on October 29.  After tying the Pride in the regular season, the College defeated Hofstra, 4-0, in the championship game to earn their seventh conference crown in school history.  W&M then ends the regular season with a match against Northeastern on November 5.

After the regular season comes to an end, the top four teams in the conference will advance to the CAA Tournament.  The No. 1 seed will host the tournament, with the semifinals on November 11 and the championship game to follow on November 13.
