Williamsburg - Tribe head coach Meredith Geiger-Walton announced the addition of James Wilson to the 21-time CAA Champion William and Mary women's tennis program as an assistant coach. Wilson served as a volunteer assistant coach for both the Texas Tech men's and women's tennis team's last season before joining the Green and Gold. He takes over the post held by Toni Neykova, who was named the associate head coach at Old Dominion.

"James Wilson is an excellent addition to the Tribe Tennis staff," Geiger-Walton said. "His collegiate and professional playing experience will bring great knowledge and intensity to the court. James represents the highest standard of character, professionalism and commitment to excellence."

At Texas Tech, Wilson coached during practice, tournaments and dual matches, while assisting with mental training techniques (goal setting, imagery and relaxation exercises). Last season, the Texas Tech men's program finished the year ranked No. 21 nationally after reaching as high as No. 14 in the rankings. The Red Raiders finished the year at 17-10 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, while also sending a pair of singles players and a doubles team to the NCAA Individual Championships. The Texas Tech women's program was ranked as high as No. 39 nationally before finishing the campaign at 18-8 with a national ranking of No. 48.

Wilson played collegiate for Tim Siegel at Texas Tech. During his final three seasons with the Red Raiders, he was a team captain and helped the Red Raiders to a 47-28 mark, including a trio of NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2009, the Red Raiders finished the year ranked No. 39 nationally after capping the 2008 season at No. 20 nationally with a 20-6 mark. As a senior, Wilson compiled a 7-3 singles mark, including four wins at the HEB Baylor Invitational. He also advanced to the round of 32 in the ITA Texas Region Singles Championship. Wilson was named an All-Big XII Academic First-Team selection in 2009.

Following graduation from Texas Tech, Wilson played on the USTA Pro Circuit competing in Futures Tournaments. He also spent time as a tennis instructor at the Dominion Country Club and The Falls Tennis and Fit Club. During his collegiate career, Wilson was an instructor for the Future Stars Tennis Camp and at the Dominion Country Club. He is currently a USPTA Certified Professional 2.

Wilson earned his degree in psychology from Texas Tech in 2009 and worked towards his master's degree in exercise and sports psychology, while serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the Red Raider tennis programs.  He was a four-year member of the President's honor list, the national Scholastic Honor Society, Big XII honor roll and the Commissioner's Honor Roll during his collegiate career. Wilson spent three years as a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee at Texas Tech and in 2009, was the Student-Athlete of the Year runner-up and a Red Raider Congeniality Award nominee.

Wilson and the Tribe open the 2011 fall season with the 19th annual William and Mary Invitational, Sept. 9-11. The three-day event, which began in 1993, has become one of the top college women's tennis tournaments on the East Coast. The competition will be played throughout Williamsburg at the Millie West Tennis Facility, the Rec. Courts and the Kiwanis Courts.
