WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Sept. 28, 2011) - The
William and Mary women's gymnastics team will participate in the JDRF Walk to
Cure Diabetes on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Yorktown, Va.
After raising
nearly $2,000 last year, the team is hoping to surpass that amount this fall as
it participates in the event for the fourth consecutive year.
"The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes has become an
annual community service event for the women's gymnastics team," head coach
Mary Lewis said. "This event is personal to our program because one of our
alums has Type I diabetes. And, it's near to my heart because I'm well
acquainted with a few others who are afflicted. We're hoping we'll receive
a tremendous amount of support through donations on any size."
Anyone interested in supporting the effort can make
a donation at www2.jdrf.org, which can be done by clicking on
the Donate to a Walker link on the left side of the page.
