The William and Mary women's cross country team sent two runners to the Cavalier Open on Friday, getting in a final tune-up before the championship post-season gets underway next weekend. Athletes from five universities and numerous unattached competitors ran the individuals-only 6K, which was won by professional runner Julia Webb in 17:54.4.
The Tribe was represented by two top-10 finishers, including Krissa Loretto (Toms River, N.J.) who finished eighth overall in 19:18.1. Melissa DiVecchia (Centreville, Va.) was nine seconds behind her teammate, finishing 10th out of the 25 competitors with a time of 19:27.1.
Championship season kicks off in earnest for the Tribe next
weekend with the Southeast Region Championships. William and Mary will be looking to secure its first trip to the NCAA Championships since 2005 with a top-showing, with the national meet being held
on Monday, November 21. W&M will also be preparing for the ECAC
Championships on November 19th, which will pit the Tribe against
universities from up and down the East Coast.
