KANSAS CITY, Kan. -
The honors continue to roll in for William and Mary Tribe junior Mallory Schaffer on Friday, as she was named a First-Team All-American by the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Schaffer is the 14th player in W&M history to be named an
All-American and the honor is the 30th total All-American accolade in school
history. The last player to earn
first-team distinction was Ann Cook following her terrific 1997 campaign.
"I am really delighted for her," Tribe head coach John Daly
remarked. "It's a great testament to the
fantastic season that she had for us.
Mallory has been a tremendous leader for us both on and off the field
and it's a terrific individual honor for a tremendous person."
The First-Team All-American honor is just one
of the many accolades earned by Schaffer following her stellar junior
campaign. The Allison Park, Pennsylvania
native was also named First-Team All-Region, CAA Player of the Year, First-Team
All-CAA, and a Hermann Trophy semifinalist.
Schaffer led the CAA in goals with 17 and points with 40. Her six
assists on the year ranked in a tie for seventh, while her six game-winning
goals were the most in the conference.
Schaffer's best stretch of the season came in
six games spanning from September 11 to October 2. In those six matches,
Schaffer scored at least one goal each game, racking up nine goals in
total. The Tribe's junior captain also liked to score in bunches in 2011,
racking up two goals in five separate matches.
Not only did Schaffer excel on the field, but
also off it. Schaffer was named a Third-Team Academic All-American by
Capital One/CoSIDA, as well as First-Team Academic All-District.
