KANSAS CITY, Kan. - William
and Mary Tribe senior midfielder Nicolas Abrigo was named to the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Third-Team
on Friday. The all-region honor is the
first for Abrigo and marks the fourth-consecutive season that the Tribe has
placed at least one player on a NSCAA All-Region squad.
After breaking out at the 2010 CAA Tournament where he
earned CAA Most Outstanding Player honors, Abrigo kept that momentum going
during the 2011 campaign for the Tribe.
The South Riding, Virginia native led the team this season with 20
points and nine goals, earning First-Team All-CAA honors. Abrigo had a knack for coming through when
it meant most this year, tallying a conference-best five game-winning scores.
The 2011 season got off to a brilliant start for the both
the College and Abrigo, as the Tribe traveled to No. 5 SMU and defeated the
Mustangs, 3-2. Abrigo was the key to the
victory, netting a pair of scores including the game-winner. The senior also came up huge in W&M's
must-win conference match against Hofstra.
In that contest, Abrigo again scored twice, including the match-winner
in overtime to give the Tribe the win.
