KANSAS CITY, Kan.
- This past week, William and Mary women's soccer junior All-American Mallory Schaffer was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America
(NSCAA) First-Team Academic All-American team.
The prestigious honor is the second for Schaffer this season, as she was
also named an Academic All-American by CoSIDA and Capital One. Schaffer was the only player from the CAA
honored as an Academic All-American.
A standout on the pitch and in the classroom, Schaffer was
named the CAA Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year earlier this
month. A Third-Team Capital
One Academic All-American honoree, the Allison Park, Pennsylvania native was
also a First-Team Academic All-District honoree this season. Schaffer, a
biology and pre-med major at the College, is also a three-time recipient of the
CAA Commissioner's Academic Award.
On the field, Schaffer was just as spectacular as she was on
the field, earning First-Team NSCAA and Second-Team Soccer
America All-American honors. The CAA and VaSID Player of the
Year, Schaffer led the conference with 17 goals and 40 points.
A-First-Team All-CAA honoree, Schaffer also dished out six assists and netted a
league-high six game-winning goals.
Schaffer's best stretch of the season came in six games
spanning from September 11 to October 2. In those six matches, Schaffer
scored at least one goal each game, racking up nine goals in total. The
Tribe's junior captain also liked to score in bunches in 2011, racking up two
goals in five separate matches.
