The William and Mary women's track and field team wrapped up a successful weekend at the CNU Captain's Invitational on Saturday, totaling three wins, three all-time performances, and one ECAC qualification.
4x800m Relay
The Tribe's top 4x800m relay earned its way to the ECAC Championships with a win on Friday night in 9:22.31. The four runners included
Christina Lee (Sterling, Va.),
Katie Buenaga (Greenville, Del.),
Casey Lardner (Burke, Va.), and
Brittany Sevachko (Centreville, Va.). The Tribe also took third in the race, as the quartet of
Avery Mattingly (Blacksburg, Va.),
Michelle Britto (Woodbridge, Va.),
Heather Clagett (Norfolk, Va.), and
Sarah Katz (Manakin-Sabot, Va.) combined to time 9:55.42 in the 16-lap race.
Triple Jump
Sophomore
Nicole Dory (Fort Worth, Texas) won the triple jump on Saturday with a career-best leap of 11.29 meters (37-0.5), moving up to fifth in school history indoors with the effort. Dory's leap tied her overall career-best, and reset her best indoor mark by 10 centimeters (roughly four inches). Classmate
Grace Elizabeth Oxley (Silver Spring, Md.) was just three centimeters off of her own career-best, and finished third on Saturday with a distance of 11.23m (36-10.25).
1000m Run
The Tribe's third win came in the 1,000m run, where sophomore
Olivia Harding (Roanoke, Va.) ran 3:08.68 to claim her first collegiate victory.
600m Dash
In the seldom-competed 600m dash, freshman
Maggie Gutierrez (Purcellville, Va.) continued to impress as a rookie with her third-place 1:41.60. Her time is the sixth-fastest ever run by a Tribe runner in the event.
60m Hurdles
Also joining the Tribe record books was freshman
Brittany Biagi (Mullica Hill, N.J.), who ran 10.01 in the prelims of the 60m hurdles on Friday night. She now ranks as the 16th-fastest hurdler in school history.
Shot Put
Junior
Natalie Baird (Sterling, Va.) had two top-three showings this weekend, including a silver-medal performance in the shot put. Baird put the 12-lbs shot a distance of 12.41m (40-8.75), with each put in the final round going further than the one before.
Weight Throw
Natalie Baird was also third in the weight throw on Friday night, hurling the weight out 14.03m (46-0.5).
Pole Vault
In the pole vault, also held on Friday, freshman
Nina Ullom (Chantilly, Va.) was just off of her best height from last weekend but still managed to claim third overall at a height of 3.34m (10-11.5).
Nicole Dory was fourth and freshman
Elizabeth Crafford (Darien, Conn.) fifth, both at 3.34m (10-11.5) as well, and were awarded places on the basis of fewer attempts.
Long Jump
In the long jump, senior
Lynnie Bresnahan (Orange, Va.) jumped 5.10m (16-8.75) on her second attempt and held onto that mark through the final round to place fourth overall.
Mile Run
The Tribe's final notable performance came in the mile run, where freshman
Grace Thomas (Vero Beach, Fla.) debuted with a time of 5:19.63 and a fifth-place showing.
William and Mary heads to Navy and George Mason next weekend, for two meets on Saturday, January 28th. The field athletes will compete in Fairfax, while the runners race in Annapolis.
