Tribe Places Fourth at Sweetheart Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 11, 2012) - The William and Mary women's gymnastics team earned its second-best score of the season but placed fourth at the Sweetheart Invitational hosted by North Carolina State on Saturday evening. The 21st-ranked Wolfpack edged No. 10 Penn State, 196.775-196.650, to win the meet, while George Washington (197.750) finished just ahead of the Tribe (191.375).

In addition to posting its second-best score of the season, W&M earned a season high on beam (47.575) and nearly equaled a season best on vault (48.225).

The College opened the meet on beam where it was led by freshman Brandy Stover's career-high 9.775. Sophomore Jessica Pritchard and freshman Stacia Ruse also contributed to the team's season high in the event with a 9.650 and a 9.625, respectively, while senior Kristin Milardo earned a season-best 9.575.

Pritchard was W&M's top performer on floor and nearly equaled a career high (9.750) en route to helping the squad total a 47.800. Milardo also came up big with a 9.675.

In the third rotation of the evening, W&M moved to vault and posted a team mark of 48.225. Milardo led the Tribe with a career-best 9.800. Junior Jennifer Ware and Ruse also contributed to the effort with a pair of 9.625's - a mark that represented a career high for Ruse.

The College wrapped up the meet on bars and was led by freshman Carleigh Wrobel's career-high 9.750. Sophomore Larson Lasek and freshman Maggie Lundeen both registered a 9.600 to help the team earn a 47.775.

Milardo was the team's top all-arounder and equaled a career high with a 38.625 to place sixth overall. Pritchard and Ruse also competed as all-arounders and recorded a 38.225 and a 37.625, respectively.

The Tribe will return to action next Saturday when it competes in a quad meet hosted by Maryland.
