W&M Women's Swimming Finishes Fourth at CAA Championships

The William and Mary women's swimming team wrapped up its season on a high note Saturday night, taking fourth place at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships with 476.5 points.  The Tribe set 10 school records, eight freshman records, and earned six NCAA qualifying times over the three days of the championships.  The team title was won by James Madison with 771 points.

1650 Free
The finals began with the 1650 freestyle, where junior Caylyn Tate (Sterling, Va.) demolished her own school record with a time of 16:38.27 for second place.  Tate also broke the school record at 1,000 yards en route, rounding the turn at 10:03.24.  Sophomore Jen Bentley (Jamestown, N.Y.) also scored for the team, placing 15th in 17:10.41.

200 Back
In the 200 back senior Hailey Hewitt (Fairfax, Va.) won gold to match the medal she earned as a freshman, coming from behind in the final 25 yards to claim the win in 1:58.22.  Hewitt was third at the final turn, and just kept accelerating through the pad in breaking the school record she set in the prelims.  Freshman Liz Glenn (Greenwood Village, Colo.) joined her on the medal stand, taking third in 1:58.60 to break the freshman record once again.  Both women came in under the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

100 Free
Freshman Megan Howard (McLean, Va.) led the way in the 100 free, placing fifth in 51.16 seconds.  Senior Molly Emery (Burke, Va.) and sophomore Sara Shaner (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) also competed in the championship heat, placing seventh and eighth in 51.22 and 51.64, respectively.  In the consolation finals, junior Gabrielle Mizerak (Manassas, Va.) was 15th in 52.17 seconds.

200 Breast
In the 200 breast, junior Emily Bart (Cherry Hill, N.J.) swam a lifetime-best 2:17.27 to place sixth in the championship race, and now ranks third in school history in the event.  Senior Liza McDevitt (Jenkintown, Pa.) was 10th overall, finishing second in the consolation heat in 2:18.66.

200 Fly
In the consolation heat of the 200 fly, freshman Brodde Lamb (Charlottesville, Va.) broke her own freshman record with a 2:02.20 showing and took third in the race, 11th overall.  Lamb improves to second all-time at W&M.

400 Free Relay
The Tribe closed out the meet in the 400 free relay, reaching the podium for the eighth time this weekend with its third-place finish in 3:24.15.  The team included Megan Howard, Sara Shaner, Gabrielle Mizerak, and Molly Emery, and swam an NCAA-qualifying time and the second-fastest time ever in school history.
