Tribe Lacrosse to Play at No. 9 Penn State on Sunday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 23, 2012) - The William and Mary lacrosse team will wrap up its non-conference slate when it plays at ninth-ranked Penn State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Despite playing the nation's third-toughest schedule thus far, W&M (2-7) entered the week ranked among the conference's best in numerous statistical categories (CAA stats were last updated on March 18). The College entered the week second in shooting percentage (.479) and third in goals per game (9.75) and points per game (13.38).

Senior Maggie Anderson currently leads the team with 22 points on 14 goals and eight assists, while sophomore Taelor Salmon has totaled a team-best 19 goals. Freshman Kaleigh Noon has also come up big with 19 points on 11 goals and eight assists, while junior Kyrstin Mackrides ranks third on the team with 13 goals.

Senior Jenny Michael and junior Caitlin Murphy have been excellent on the draw and lead the team with 21 and 19 draw controls, respectively.

Defensively, senior Sarah Mulvey leads the team with seven caused turnovers and 20 ground balls, while senior Denise Lenihan ranks second on the squad with 14 ground balls. Freshman goalie Lucy Ferguson has registered 82 saves.

Ranked ninth nationally, Penn State enters Sunday's game with a 7-2 record and has won its last three contests. Mackenzie Cyr leads the Nittany Lions with 32 points (19g, 13a), while Tatum Coffey has registered a team-high 23 goals.

Sunday's game marks the 31st time the two teams have met, as PSU leads the all-time series, 23-7.
