Richmond, Va. - William and Mary senior Quinn McDowell was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) men's basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced on Friday. McDowell becomes the third W&M men's basketball player, along with Adam Hess '04 and David Schneider '10, to win the accolade.

The conference honors one Scholar-Athlete in each of its 23 championship sports. Nominees for the award must be a starter or important reserve on their team and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25. The winners were selected by a vote of the media relations directors at each CAA institution.

A senior majoring in religious studies and minoring in economics, McDowell became the first two-time recipient of the CAA's prestigious Dean Ehlers Leadership Award after earning the distinction in both 2011 and 2012. He is also the first CAA men's basketball player to be named a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. This past season, McDowell was selected to the CAA men's basketball All-Academic first team for the second year in a row in 2011-12.

On the court, McDowell, who was the only Tribe player to start all 32 games, led W&M and ranked 16th in the CAA in scoring with 12.5 points per game this season. The two-time all-conference honoree finished his career as one of only four players in Tribe history with more than 1,600 points and 500 rebounds. McDowell owns W&M records for most games (126) and most minutes played (4,093) in a career, while ranking among the top 10 in career scoring, free throw percentage, 3-point field goal percentage, 3-pointers made and field goals made.
