2012 Tribe Football Spring Practice Update – April 6

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 6, 2012) - With the Green and Gold Game just a week away, William and Mary rising sophomore running back Keith McBride recently sat down with to discuss his offseason preparation as well as his future goals both on and off the field.

Below is a quick look at the Tribe's spring depth chart at the tailback position.

Quote from position coach Mike Godsil:

"We are working with a great group of players at the tailback position.  You obviously lose a lot when a player like Jonathan Grimes graduates from the program, but I feel like the current group is very talented and has shown a work ethic that is second to none.  The position group is making great strides and has been very impressive.  The staff can see the unit's confidence grow as the spring progresses, and our expectations will be to have a very productive fall."

#24 Keith McBride, So. (6-0, 210)
2011 Season Highlights - Video
Transferred from Navy after redshirting his freshman season ... Made an immediate impact last fall, playing in 10 games with one start ... Finished the year with 281 rushing yards on 56 carries with two touchdowns ... Averaged 5.0 yards per carry ... Rattled off a 50-yard touchdown run in the win against sixth-ranked New Hampshire ... Great speed and vision ... Has big-play ability ... Good hands and has ability to be an every-down back ... In high school, he won the 200 meter state championship with a time of 21.0. 
#44 Meltoya Jones, Sr. (5-9, 215)
Most experienced returning tailback ... Has great athleticism and burst ... Good ball skills ... Appeared in 26 games during his career, totaling 204 rushing yards on 47 carries. 
#7 Mikal Abdul-Saboor, RFr. (5-10, 214)
Converted from quarterback to tailback last fall ... Has posted a strong spring camp and taken full advantage of his spring reps ... Great vision and physical running style ... Blends power and elusiveness. 
#25 Darnell Laws, So. (6-0, 215)
Team's biggest back ... Powerful downhill runner ... Will be a short-yardage specialist ... Appeared in five games last season and totaled 13 rushing yards on six carries. 
#21 Jarrell Cooper, So. (5-8, 185)
Possesses great quickness and is very elusive in the open field ... Outstanding vision ... Very tough player ... Saw action in five games last fall and recorded 48 rushing yards on six carries for an average of 8.0 yards per rush. 
#43 TJ Ptachick, Sr. (6-2, 225)
Most experienced player at the fullback position ... Primed to make an impact ... Has tremendous work ethic in the weight room and uses his strength to his advantage on the field ... Brings physical presence to position ... Appeared in 10 games as a reserve fullback and on special teams last season ... CAA Academic All-Conference Team selection. 
#57 Andrew Weidinger, RFr. (6-0, 220)
Converted from linebacker to fullback ... Honored as the W&M QB Club Scout Team Defensive Player of the Year last season ... Very aggressive player who enjoys physical aspects of position ... Great explosive and hip roll ... Plays through contact and seeks to finish every block. 
#38 Levi Cohen, So. (5-11, 218)
Hard worker ... Unselfish player who is solid in alignments and assignments ... Maximizes physical potential ... Scout team fullback last season.
