PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 7, 2012) - The
William and Mary men's gymnastics team had a very successful final day at the Eastern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, as a pair of gymnasts
won major conference honors. Additionally, five Tribe gymnasts combined to claim six
all-league accolades in the individual event finals.
After an
outstanding junior season in which he was one of W&M's top all-arounders, junior
Futa Ikeda garnered the ECAC Most Improved award. Freshman standout J.J. Jindra
was also recognized for an outstanding season and was selected as the ECAC
Rookie of the Year.
A trio of
Tribe gymnasts earned all-conference distinction on pommel horse, as freshman
Peter Ten Eyck (13.65) tied for fourth while sophomore Daniel Potemski (13.6) and freshman Jason Wang (13.6) tied
for sixth.
Potemski also
earned all-league honors on vault with a third-place finish and a score of
14.55.
Sophomore
Landon Funiciello matched his career high on floor (14.5) and placed fourth to
garner all-league honors. Potemski also qualified for the event finals and
finished ninth with a 13.95.
In addition to
his rookie of the year honor, Jindra also earned all-conference distinction on
parallel bars with a fifth-place finish (14.0). Ten Eyck and Ikeda also competed
in the event finals and tied for ninth with a pair of 13.5's.
Jindra (13.3)
and sophomore Sam Patterson (12.6) represented W&M in the high bar finals
and placed ninth and 10th, respectively.
