Ben Katz Named CAA Field Athlete of the Week

William and Mary junior Ben Katz (Manakin-Sabot, Va.) was named Field Athlete of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association Tuesday, after helping lead the Tribe at the Colonial Relays last weekend.  It is the second weekly award of the spring for the W&M men's track and field team, after Josh Hardin (Sterling, Va.) took Track Athlete of the Week on March 27.

Katz scored eight team points for the Tribe over the weekend, scoring in both the long jump and the high jump.  In the long jump, he tied his career-best outdoors with a leap of 6.96 meters (22-10), placing sixth overall.  Katz is now ranked eighth in the CAA this spring, and 11th all-time at the College outdoors.  In the high jump, Katz cleared the bar at 2.01m (6-7) for fourth place.  The defending CAA Champion, Katz is the only conference athlete so far in 2011-12 (both indoors and outdoors) to jump 6-7 or higher.

Katz and his teammates return to action this Saturday, traveling to Fairfax for the Mason Spring Invitational.
