WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 19, 2012) - The
William and Mary lacrosse team will close out the regular season when it plays
at Drexel and Hofstra this weekend. W&M will square off against the Dragons
on Friday at 7 p.m. before playing the Pride on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Tribe
(3-12, 1-4) will look to build off one of its best performances of the season,
as it defeated George Mason, 18-8, last Sunday. After leading the Patriots,
9-5, at halftime, the College pulled away by scoring seven of the first eight
goals in the second half. Freshman Kaleigh Noon totaled a career-high six
points (4g, 2a) and six draw controls in the victory en route to claiming her
third Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honor.
Sophomore
Taelor Salmon leads the Tribe offensively with a team-high 38 points (29g, 9a).
Additionally, the Fort Washington, Md., native ranks among the conference's top
10 in goals per game (1.93) and points per game (2.53). Senior Maggie Anderson
and junior Kyrstin Mackrides have also played well and have totaled 35 and 32
points, respectively. Noon's 30 points (17g, 13) ranks fourth on the team,
while she ranks fifth in the league in both assists per game (1.00) and draw
controls per game (2.46).
Defensively,
senior Sarah Mulvey leads the College with 15 caused turnovers and 36 ground
balls, while her 2.40 ground balls per game ranks fifth in the conference.
Freshman goalie Lucy Ferguson ranks second in the CAA with 9.0 saves per game,
a figure that stands 15th nationally.
As a team,
W&M leads the conference with a .493 shooting percentage and ranks second
in saves per game (9.93).
Drexel enters
Friday's game with a 9-5 record overall and a 2-3 mark in league action. After
opening its season by winning seven of its first nine contests, the Dragons
have dropped three of their last five. DU is led by Charlotte Wood, who ranks
second in the league in goals per game (2.31) and fifth in points per game
(3.08).
W&M leads
the all-time series with Drexel, 10-2, and has won each of the last three
meetings.
Hofstra enters
the weekend with a 4-10 record overall and a 3-2 mark in conference play.
Although the Pride suffered a seven-game losing streak midway through the
season, it has bounced back by winning two of its last three contests. Jill
Maier leads Hofstra with 20 goals, while Brittain Altomare has totaled a team-high
30 points on 14 goals and 16 assists. Jaclyn Pandolf has also played well and
leads the CAA with 3.08 ground balls per game.
