TOWSON, Md. (April 26, 2012) - The
William and Mary lacrosse team was well represented at the Colonial Athletic
Association awards banquet on Thursday evening, as five Tribe players earned
all-conference honors. Senior defender Sarah Mulvey, junior attacker Kyrstin Mackrides, sophomore midfielder Katie Stillwell and freshman goalie Lucy Ferguson all garnered second-team distinction, while Ferguson and freshman
Kaleigh Noon earned All-Rookie Team accolades.
One of the league's
top defenders this season, Mulvey ranked among the CAA's best with 2.33 ground
balls per game. The Milton, Mass., native led W&M in both ground balls (38)
and caused turnovers (17), as she totaled at least three ground balls in 10
games this season. Mulvey finished her career with 55 career caused turnovers,
which ranks seventh all-time at the College.
Mackrides
posted an outstanding season this spring and led W&M with 32 goals, as she
ranked ninth in the CAA with 1.88 goals per game. Additionally, the Newtown
Square, Pa., native tied for third in goals per game in conference play (2.29)
and seventh in points per game in conference action (2.86). Mackrides finished
the season with six hat tricks and totaled 36 points, 13 ground balls, five
draw controls, and four caused turnovers while recording a .500 shooting
percentage.
One of the
league's best all-around players, Stillwell made a significant impact on both
ends of the field this season. The Chantilly, Va., native scored goals in nine
games and posted three multi-goal efforts. Additionally, she registered
multi-ground ball efforts in seven games and totaled at least two draw controls
six times, including three times in league action.
Ferguson established
herself as one of the nation's top goalies this spring. The Montclair, N.J., native
finished the season ranked second nationally in saves (172) and sixth in saves
per game (10.12). The impressive saves total ranks tied for fourth on W&M's
single-season list. Additionally, she led the CAA in save percentage (.523) and
saves per game (11.29) in league games. Her best performance came in the
season-ending overtime win at Hofstra when she totaled a career-high 23 saves -
the most by any player in the nation this season. She was honored as the Co-CAA
Rookie of the Week following that effort.
Honored as the
CAA Rookie of the Week three times this season, Noon ranked fifth in the
conference in draw controls per game (2.53) and seventh in assists per game
(0.93). The Baltimore, Md., native led the team in both categories with 14
assists and 38 draw controls, while she posted six multi-goal games and four
hat tricks. Additionally, she posted a .588 shooting percentage, which ranked
second on the team and first among players who scored at least 10 goals.
