William and Mary's Andrew Strait (Henrico, Va.) started competition at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials Monday afternoon, swimming the first of his three events this week.  Strait competed in the prelims of the 100m breaststroke, timing 1:05.51 for ninth in his heat and 120th overall.  It was the first-ever swim for a Tribe men's swimmer at the Olympic Trials.

Strait, the Colonial Athletic Association's Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, completed his sophomore season with one of the finest performances ever at the CAA Championships.  Over the course of the three-day meet, he set seven school records and earned two silver medals (in the 400y IM and the 200y breaststroke) and a bronze (on the 200 free relay).  An NCAA-qualifier with 15 victories in 2011-12, Strait was also named to CollegeSwimming.com's Mid-Major All-America team.

The Olympic Trials continue all week, with the Tribe back in the starting blocks tomorrow with rising senior Sidney Glass (Mechanicsville, Va.) and incoming freshman Will Manion (Haddonfield, N.J.) competing the 100m backstroke.  Strait's next event will be the 200m breaststroke, on Thursday.
