BALTIMORE, Md. (July 30, 2012) - Former
William and Mary lacrosse All-American Grace Golden has been selected to the
2012-14 U.S. Women's National Senior Team.
The 36-player squad
was chosen following a three-day tryout that featured more than 80 of the top
women's lacrosse players in the country. The group will serve as the training
team pool for the squad that will defend Team USA's 2009 gold medal at the 2013
Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario.
The team will
meet for several training events before the final 18-player FIL World Cup
roster is announced in February 2013, including Stars and Stripes weekend
(California) in October 2012 and Champion Challenge (Florida) in January 2013.
The team will also conduct numerous national team player clinics throughout the
year at various sites around the country.
One of the
greatest players in W&M history, Golden was selected as an All-American by
three organizations following her senior season in 2011. Additionally, she was
chosen as a Tewaaraton Award nominee, which is given to the nation's top
collegiate player. A first-team all-region selection, she was also honored as
the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and became just the
third player in league history to earn first-team all-conference distinction
four times.
Golden owns W&M's school record for career draw controls (153), while
she ranks second in career points (231) and goals (187). Additionally, she
ranks among the program's all-time top 10 in assists, ground balls and caused
turnovers.
