WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William
and Mary women's soccer senior midfielder Mallory Schaffer has been named the
2012 Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Player of the Year. Last season, the Allison Park, Pa., native
took home CAA Player of the Year honors before being named a first-team
All-American. In 2011, Schaffer led the
Tribe with 17 goals and 40 points and was a semifinalist for the Hermann
Trophy, which is presented to the nation's top collegiate player. In 2012, Schaffer is once again on the
Hermann Trophy preseason watch list.
Teammates joining Schaffer with CAA preseason accolades are
senior midfielder Cortlyn Bristol, sophomore back Emily Fredrikson and
sophomore forward Emory Camper. Bristol and Fredrikson were named to the
league's first-team, while Camper earned honorable mention honors.
The Tribe opens the 2012 season Friday, Aug. 17, as it plays
host to preseason No. 2 ranked Duke University. Kickoff at Martin-Family
Stadium at Albert-Daly Field is slated for 7 p.m.
