WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - In its new previewing series, 'Touting the Tribe,' TribeAthletics.com
gives fans a glance at William and Mary student-athletes to keep an eye on
during the upcoming 2012-13 season. With the women's soccer program's
season-opener against preseason No. 1 Duke tonight, the first player highlighted
is senior midfielder
Cortlyn Bristol.
Bristol is a three-year starter, scoring 16 goals with 15
assists and 47 points over her 60-game and 45-start career with the Green and
Gold. She enters her senior campaign as a Preseason All-CAA first-team
selection. Last season, Bristol ranked among the CAA leaders in a number of
offensive categories. She tied for second in the league in assists, behind
teammate
Dani Rutter, with nine to go along with the eighth-most points in the
CAA (23). Bristol scored seven goals and was third in the CAA, punching home
four game-winning goals.
A two-time All-CAA honoree, including first-team distinction
a season ago, Bristol was the CAA Player of the Week, following her two-goal
performance against St. John's in the season-opener last season. She also
recorded game-winning markers in CAA victories at Hofstra, against George Mason
and at Old Dominion. She capped the season with an assist in the Tribe's NCAA
Tournament contest against North Carolina, before earning First-Team NSCAA
All-Region honors.
Bristol and the Tribe, which is No. 20
in the Soccer America preseason poll, kick off the 2012 campaign against 2011
national runner-up Duke at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field tonight.
The contest, featuring two nationally-ranked teams, is slated to begin at 7
p.m. The first 100 Griffin Kids Club members in attendance will receive a Nike
cleat bag. Fans unable to attend can purchase the video stream from
TribeAthletics TV.
