WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The
William and Mary men's soccer team will play Virginia Tech in its final
exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 18, before opening the 2012 season on Aug. 24,
against Butler in Richmond, Va. Tomorrow
night's contest with the Hokies is scheduled for 7 p.m., and fans can follow
the action online at TribeAthletics.com by purchasing the live video stream or by following along with live stats.
In its first exhibition at Longwood on Aug. 13, W&M
built a, 2-0, halftime lead as it defeated the Lancers, 3-1. Junior Ben Coffey and sophomores Chris
Albiston and Michael Teiman each registered goals, while junior Chris Perez
tallied two assists and sophomore Chris Dunn added a helper.
For the match, the Tribe owned the advantage on shots (9-4)
and corner kicks (6-4).
Sophomore keeper Bennett Jones pitched a shutout in the
opening 45 minutes, while sophomore Daniel Laws maintained the frame in the
second half.
For Virginia Tech, Saturday night will mark the Hokies'
final tune-up before beginning the 2012 season against SIU-Edwardsville on Aug.
24, in the Hilton Garden Hokie Invitational.
The last time W&M and Tech met on the pitch was during
the 2007 season. The contest, which was
played in Williamsburg, ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
W&M soccer opens the 2012 campaign against the Butler
Bulldogs on Aug. 24, in a tournament hosted by in-state foe Virginia
Commonwealth. The contest in Richmond, Va., is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
