WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary lacrosse head
coach Brooke Ireland has announced the hiring of MK Geratowski as an assistant
coach.
"I am excited to bring MK on
board and become part of the Tribe lacrosse family," Ireland said. "I am
fortunate to have an individual who has been very successful on every level in
the lacrosse world, including collegiate, club, Division I, Division III and
international. I believe that her professional demeanor along with her passion
and dedication to our sport is a perfect fit for the future of Tribe Lacrosse."
Geratowski joins the Tribe staff
after spending last season as an assistant coach at Washington and Lee
University. She was instrumental in the Generals' success, as the team won the
2012 ODAC Championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Additionally, a number of W&L players benefited from her tutelage, as six
standouts earned all-conference honors. The program also produced three
all-region selections and an All-American last spring.
"I want to thank Brooke, the
search committee, and Athletics Director Terry Driscoll for this opportunity to
work with the lacrosse program here at William & Mary," Geratowski said. "I
am so excited to work with the high level student-athletes both on and off the
field in order to continue the great women's lacrosse tradition here."
Prior to helping lead W&L,
Geratowski spent one season as a volunteer assistant at the University of
Richmond. While at UR, she served as the defensive coordinator and helped the
Spiders post a 10-9 record overall and a 6-1 mark in Atlantic 10 action.
Geratowski also served as an
assistant coach at Connecticut College in 2010 and has coached a number of club
teams, including X-Team (national club team), Geronimo Elite (Richmond, Va.)
and Nor'Easter (Connecticut).
A two-sport student-athlete at
Elmira College, Geratowski was a standout on the Soaring Eagles' lacrosse and
ice hockey teams. In lacrosse, she served as a team captain during her senior
year and earned the squad's team MVP award. Additionally, she was named to the
Empire 8 All-Sportsmanship Team. In hockey, she garnered the team's Coaches
Award as a sophomore and helped lead Elmira to three NCAA Tournament berths.
Following her collegiate career,
Geratowski spent one year playing and coaching lacrosse in England. She
was a member of the Hitchin Sprites Lacrosse Club and was the head lacrosse
coach for Princess Helena College, where she oversaw four teams. Under
Geratowski's direction, the Under-19 team advanced to the semifinals of the
Division III National Tournament.
Geratowski earned a bachelor's
degree in English literature and secondary education from Elmira in 2008 and a
masters' degree in sport leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University in
2011.
