WILLIAMSBURG, Va - Following
its 3-0 victory over Richmond on Wednesday night, the William and Mary women's
soccer team heads to Auburn for a noon (CT) showdown against the Tigers on
Sunday, Sept. 2. The contest will mark
the third meeting between the two schools.

Scouting the Tribe
The College enters its weekend tilt at Auburn riding a
two-game winning streak. In its last two
matches, W&M recorded victories over Akron (4-0) and Richmond (3-0). For the season, the Green and Gold owns a
record of 2-2. Senior Mallory Schaffer
headlines a potent Tribe attack. For the
year, the Allison Park Pa., native has registered a team-high three goals. Senior Cortlyn Bristol has tallied five
points on two goals and an assist, while classmate Erin Liberatore has produced
one goal and an assist. Junior's Danni
Rutter and Audrey Barry have each netted a goal and one assist.
Scouting the Tigers
Head coach Karen Hoppa is in her 13th season at Auburn and
owns a record of 151-100-23 while on the Plains. Auburn entered the 2012 season ranked 25th in
the nation, but back-to-back loses to Pepperdine (1-2) and UC Irvine (0-1) have
dropped the Tigers out of the national rankings. Before hosting the Tribe on Sunday, Sept. 2,
Auburn will look rebound Friday night at home against Samford. Leading Auburn's attack are senior Mary
Coffed, sophomore Tori Ball and freshman Alexa Allen. The trio has tallied four points apiece,
coming on two goals each.
News and Notes
- Senior
co-captain Carson Scott returns to her native state of Alabama this weekend for
the match against the Tigers. A native
of Birmingham, Ala., Scott was a standout performer at Mountain Brook High
School, earning all-state accolades in 2009 and 2008. Oddly enough, the Mountain Brook Spartans
sport the colors of Green and Gold.
- On Wednesday night, the Tribe defeated in-state foe
Richmond, 3-0, at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. Senior's Erin Liberatore and Mallory Schaffer netted scores for the College, while junior Dani Rutter connected on
her first score of the season. Freshman
Barbara Platenberg tallied her first career point, as she assisted on Rutter's
goal in the 85th minute. For the match,
the Tribe outshot the Spiders, 25-10.
W&M held the edge in shots on goal, 10-2, and corner kicks, 9-1.
- The last time the College competed against two SEC teams
in the same season occurred during the 2006 campaign when W&M traveled to
Auburn for a two-match tournament. The
Tribe opened play by defeating Vanderbilt, 1-0, on former W&M great Claire
Zimmeck's first-half goal. In its final
match of the trip, the Green and Gold fell against Auburn, 1-2, in a double
overtime affair. All-time, Auburn holds
a 2-0 series edge over the Tribe.
- Against SEC opponents, the College owns a record of 6-5-2.
W&M owns series advantages over Alabama (1-0), Arkansas (1-0-1), South
Carolina (1-0), Texas A&M (2-1) and Vanderbilt (1-0).
