The William and Mary men's cross country team shook off the summer rust at the Spider Alumni Open, finishing third overall with several top runners not competing. Richmond won its own race 27-50 over UMBC, while W&M was third in the field of six teams with 61 points.

Winning the individual title in the 5K race was reshirt-sophomore
Rad Gunzenhauser (Pittsburgh, Pa.), crossing the line in 15:01.4. It was the first collegiate victory in either track or cross country for the 2011 CAA Rookie fo the Year. The next runner through the chute for W&M was grad student
Joe LoRusso (Oak Hill, Va.), who was sixth in 15:20.3. Sophomore
Jack Anderson (Pfafftown, N.C.) was hard on his heels for seventh in 15:21.0, and
Joshua Mercado (Citrus Heights, Calif.) ran 15:58.8 for 31st. Rounding out the scoring line-up was redshirt-freshman
David Waterman (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), 16:26.7 for 44th, and redshirt-sophomore
Ted Richardson (Midlothian, Va.), who took 50th in 16:58.2.
William and Mary's next meet will come on September 15th, with the Tribe
hosting several colleges and dozens of high schools in the 54th Annual
W&M Cross Country Invitational.
