WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary men's soccer team will begin its CAA schedule when it hosts Northeastern at Martin-Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Saturday at 3 p.m. Fans can follow the action online at TribeAthletics.com with live video and stats.
Scouting the Tribe
The College opens league play with a record of 2-4-1. In its last match, the Green and Gold dropped
a hard-fought, 2-1, overtime decision to defending Southern Conference champion
Elon. Against the Phoenix, sophomore
Chris Albiston gave the Tribe a 1-0 halftime lead after netting his second goal
of the season in the 36th minute. After tying the affair at 1-1, the Phoenix
registered the game-winner in overtime on a PK.
Senior Ben Anderson leads W&M with seven points, coming on two goals
and three assists. Sophomore Chris
Albiston has netted two goals, while classmate Marcus Luster has also tallied
two scores.
Scouting the Huskies
Under the direction of eighth-year head coach Brian
Ainscough, Northeastern begins CAA competition with a mark of 4-1. In its last contest, the Huskies earned a 1-0
road victory at Fairfield behind freshman Terence Carter's goal in the 109th
minute of double overtime. Senior Don
Anding leads Northeastern with six points, coming on two goals and two assists.
Northeastern comes to Williamsburg with a South-Atlantic Region ranking of
eighth per the NSCAA poll.
News and Notes:
- Since the
series inception in 2005, the College has posted a 4-1-3 record against the
Huskies, as every contest has ended in overtime. Last season, sophomore Chris Albiston's goal
in the 99th minute propelled W&M to the 3-2 overtime triumph in a match
that was played at nearby Warhill Sports Complex due to torrential rains. Aggregately, the Tribe has tallied 12 goals
compared to NU's nine.
- Since 2000, the Tribe is 5-6-1 in CAA openers. Last year, the Green and Gold opened league play with a 1-0 road victory at UNCW. Saturday afternoon's match versus Northeastern will mark the first time that the Tribe and Huskies have opened CAA play against each other.
- For the first time since the 2008 campaign, the College will begin its CAA slate at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. The Tribe is 3-2-1 in home league openers since 2000.
- In the Creighton Invitational last weekend, junior Chris Perez and sophomore Marcus Luster earned all-tournament team accolades after solid outings on the pitch. Against Drake, Perez connected on his first goal of the season and followed the performance with an assist versus No. 2 Creighton, while Luster netted his second score of the year in the College's 4-1 victory over Drake.
- Last year, the College consistently bounced back from its losses as it posted a 5-3 record following setbacks. Additionally, W&M outscored the opposition in the bounce back victories, 7-2.
