WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women's tennis team will send a quartet
of players to the 19th annual Hokie Fall Invitational, Sept. 28-30, at the
Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg. Seniors
Anik Cepeda and
Nina Vulovich along with juniors
Sydney Smith and
Hope Johnson will compete in the
event, beginning on Friday, Sept. 28.
The event includes four, 16-player singles flights and
a pair of 16-team doubles draws. Friday kicks off with one round of doubles
play at 9 a.m., followed by two rounds of singles. Saturday will start at 9
a.m. with two doubles rounds and one singles round. Sunday will be
the final rounds of both singles and doubles, beginning at 9 a.m. Joining the
Tribe and the host Virginia Tech at the event are Wofford, Liberty, UNCW, East
Tennessee State, Radford, Armstrong Atlantic State, UMBC, Middle Tennessee
State and Winthrop.
Cepeda and Johnson will pair to compete in doubles Flight A,
while Smith and Vulovich will be in Flight B. Cepeda and Johnson will face the
UNCW team of Kelley Cameron and Miller Hales at 9 a.m. on Friday in the opening
round. Smith and Vulovich drew the East Tennessee State duo of Salma Dahbi and
Sofia Espana at 9 a.m. as well.
In singles action, Cepeda opens competition in Flight A
against ETSU's Salma Dahbi at 11 a.m. on Friday with her second round match in
either the quarterfinals or consolation side slated for 2 p.m. Smith and
Vulovich will take part in Flight B and C, respectively, and open singles
action at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Smith will face UNCW's Christina Riley, while
Vulovich meets Wofford's Mareli Sanchez. Both Tribe players will compete in
their second round matches at 2 p.m. on Friday.
