The William and Mary men's cross country team turned in a very impressive showing Friday morning at the Brooks Paul Short Invitational, finishing second in the field of 37 teams and upsetting four ranked foes in the process. The Tribe scored 100 points with four runners in the top-17, finishing behind only No. 22 Villanova (69 points). Georgetown's Mark Dennin won the 8K race in 23:57.

W&M was the only school to place four runners in the top-17 of the race, led by senior
Alex McGrath (Marlborough, N.H.) who finished 11th overall in 24:23. Redshirt-junior
Josh Hardin (Sterling, Va.) was next across the line, two seconds back, and redshirt-sophomore
Rad Gunzenhauser (Pittsburgh, Pa.) came through in 24:27 for 14th place. Senior
John Muller (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) cruised through the mud and the muck in 24:29, taking 17th. Grad student
Joe LoRusso (Oak Hill, Va.) finished the scoring in 51st, taking 24:57, and
Joshua Mercado (Citrus Heights, Calif.) and
Jack Anderson (Pfafftown, N.C.) rounded out the varsity seven, in 25:24 and 25:45, respectively.
William and Mary is back in action in two weeks, Sat., Oct. 13, with a
split-squad weekend. The varsity runners will head out to Louisville,
Ky., for the Pre-National Invitational and an early look at the NCAA
Championships course. The remainder of the team will host the Tribe
Open in Williamsburg, taking on runners from around the state and the
region.
