TULSA, Okla. - William and Mary men's tennis senior Jamie Whiteford became the first Tribe singles player since 2004 to compete in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships on Thursday, but fell in the opening round. The All-American Championships, which are the first national collegiate championship of the fall season, are hosted by the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

After earning an at-large bid to the national championship event, Whiteford, who is ranked No. 43 nationally, dropped his opening round singles match in the 64-player draw to Memphis' Joe Salisbury, 6-4, 6-3. Salisbury continued his impressive run at the event as he worked his way though the prequalifying and qualifying draws with six straight wins to earn a spot in the main draw opposite Whiteford.

In the consolation draw, the Tribe senior faced off with No. 12-ranked Anthony Rossi of Kentucky. The pair of nationally ranked foes battled in a close match as the Wildcat player pulled out a 7-5, 6-4 victory to down Whiteford and close out his All-American Championships experience.
