WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After
an exceptional week on the pitch, senior Cortlyn Bristol and freshman Barbara Platenberg garnered awards both nationally and from the Colonial Athletic
Association on Monday. Bristol was named
to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team
of the Week after tallying four assists in the span of two matches, while
Platenberg garnered CAA Rookie of the Week distinctions with two goals in the
Tribe's win at Georgia State.
Bristol started the week strong, as she ignited W&M's
three-goal outburst against UNCW with a career-high three assists. The
preseason All-CAA selection continued her outstanding run, registering a helper
in the Tribe's 2-1 victory at Georgia State on Sunday afternoon. For her career, Bristol has accounted for 25
assists and leads the CAA this season with 10.
The national team of the week distinction is the Chantilly, Va., natives
second career and first of the season.
In the match at Georgia State, Platenberg netted the
equalizer, her first collegiate goal, off of Bristol's assist in the 42nd
minute. The Fairfax Station, Va., native
struck again in the 57th minute with the game-winner that sizzled the upper
left corner of goal. The award is the
first of Platenberg's career as her five points rank in a tie for fifth among
CAA freshmen.
The Tribe returns to action on Friday, Oct. 12, as it
travels to Delaware for a 7 p.m. match.
