Despite intermittent lightning and rains that halted play at various times Monday, the William and Mary women's golf team completed the first round of play at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in a tie for 14th overall, shooting 319 (+31).  Maryland and UNCW are tied for the lead in the 20-team tournament at seven-over (295), and the Terrapins' Juliet Vongphoumy has a two-stroke lead on the field after her round of 68 (-4).

Freshman Alessandra Liu (Cynwyd, Pa.) was the Tribe's top performer on a trying day, shooting a five-over 77 to stand tied for 33rd.  One stroke back in a tie for 43rd was senior Katy Hutcherson (Greeneville, Tenn.), and freshman Tina Chang (Mineola, N.Y.) is tied for 66th after her first-round 81 (+9).  Senior Betsy Birchall (Mountain Brook, Ala.) shot 83 to enter the clubhouse tied for 79th, and sophomore Kellie Edelblut (New Hope, Pa.) rounded out the team scoring with an 85.

The second and final round of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate will begin Tuesday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
