W&M's Andrew Strait Named CAA Swimmer of the Week

William and Mary swimmer Andrew Strait (Henrico, Va.) was selected as the Men's Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday by the Colonial Athletic Association, after his stunning performance in the pool on Saturday.  This is the first weekly honor of the year for Strait, and for the Tribe swimming program.

Saturday during W&M's 191-89 season-opening win over Towson, Strait won three individual events and helped win a relay as well, while posting some of the top times in the nation so far this season.  His most impressive turn came in the 100 breast, where he smashed the school record by 1.34 seconds and qualified for the NCAA Championships with his time of 54.85 seconds.  That ranks as the No.-1 performance in the NCAA this season.  He also won the 200 breast in 2:04.28 and the 200 IM in 1:53.30, ranking fourth and seventh in the nation, respectively.  Strait swam the breaststroke leg on the College's 200 medley relay that won in 1:32.46, the fourth-best time this season nationally and the sixth-best time in the event ever at W&M.

Strait and his teammates will compete at home for the first time this weekend, hosting Mary Washington at the Rec Center natatorium.  The meet between the Tribe and the Eagles will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
