The 18th-ranked William and Mary women's cross country team reclaimed the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Saturday morning, outscoring James Madison 28-36 to win its first conference title in the past three years.  In addition to the Tribe and the Dukes, Delaware was third with 98 points in the first conference meet held in Williamsburg since 2001.

Leading the way for the Tribe and overall was junior All-American Elaina Balouris (Allison Park, Pa.), who dominated both the field and the course with her winning time of 20:43.1.  The performance was her first CAA title in cross country, and broke the existing course record of 20:57.8 by JMU's Mollie DeFrancesco in 2001.  Freshman Emily Stites (Wyoming, Ohio) was third in 21:01.4, the top freshman finisher at the event.

Sophomore Jess Cygan (Bethlehem, Pa.) was seventh in 21:17.9, leading three teammates across in quick succession.  Junior Lanie Smith (Reston, Va.) earned her first all-conference nod in eighth place at 21:32.2, and classmate Clarissa Schick (Richmond, Va.) also earned her first spot on the All-CAA squad, taking ninth with a time of 21:39.8.  Senior Michelle Britto (Woodbridge, Va.) made her second-straight appearance in the top-10 with a 10th-place finish, timing 21:41.6.  Sophomore Dylan Hassett (Alpharetta, Ga.) earned the final spot on the all-conference squad, running 21:45.6 for 12th overall.

The win was W&M's 18th CAA title overall, a figure that ranks fifth all-time in NCAA history.  This year also marked the first time that the host school has won the CAA championship since 1997, which also went to W&M.

William and Mary will host the Massey Cancer Center 5K Run next Friday, Nov. 2.  Registration is still open and donations are still being accepted, both at Massey5K.com.
