The William and Mary women's indoor track and field team opened the 2012-13 indoor season on Saturday, competing at the Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg, Va. The Tribe earned one win, one ECAC qualification, and one all-time top performance during the all-day event.

Pole Vault
In the pole vault, sophomore
Elizabeth Crafford (Darien, Conn.) began her year with a strong second-place height of 3.60 meters (11-9.75). The clearance qualified her for the ECAC Championships at the end of the indoor season. Also in the vault, junior
Nicole Dory (Fort Worth, Texas) was fifth overall, topping the bar at a height of 3.45m (11-3.75).
Shot Put
In the shot put, redshirt-senior
Natalie Baird (Sterling, Va.) was fifth overall with a season-opening put of 12.56m (41-2.5). Freshman
Rochelle Evans (Christiansburg, Va.) took 11th overall with a put of 11.20m (36-9), and leapt onto the Tribe record books as the 14th-best shot-putter all-time indoors.
500m Dash
The Tribe had a strong performance in the 500m dash, with three athletes finishing in the top five. Leading the way was freshman
Claire Tito (Richmond, Va.), who won the race in 1:18.97. Sophomore
Sarah Katz (Manakin-Sabot, Va.) was second in 1:20.79, and sophomore
Brittany Biagi (Mullica Hill, N.J.) was fifth in 1:22.03.
4x400m Relay
W&M also earned a top-five showing in the mile relay. The Tribe was fifth in 4:07.06, thanks to strong running from the team of
Breanna Brukalo (Staten Island, N.Y.), Katz,
Shelby Feliciano (Winchester, Va.), and
Ashley Woodards (Franklinville, N.J.).
William and Mary is back in action next weekend, competing at the CNU Holiday Open on Saturday, Dec. 8.
