Thornton becomes the first two-time CAA Player of the Week in the league this season and is the first W&M player since Adam Hess in 2002-03 to win the weekly league award on two occasions in the same season. During the week, the 6-4 guard averaged 22.5 points, four rebounds, three assists, 1.5 blocked shots and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting 43.2 percent (16-of-37) from the field, including a 9-of-17 (52.9 percent) effort from 3-point range.
Against the Monarchs, Thornton scored 13 first-half points and finished the game at 8-of-16 from the field. He knocked down five of his nine 3-point attempts and dished out four assists to go with a career-high tying two steals in the win over ODU. In the Tribe's double overtime game at Richmond, Thornton scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half and overtime. He was 4-of-8 from 3-point range and added a season-high five rebounds with a career-high tying two blocked shots against the Spiders.
On the year, Thornton leads the Tribe and ranks second in the CAA in scoring at 19 points per game. In total, he ranks among the top 12 in the CAA in eight statistical categories. He is second in 3-pointers made per game (2.7), third in 3-point field goal percentage (42.2 percent), fifth in minutes played (35.3), seventh in field goal percentage (50 percent), eighth in blocked shots (1.3), 10th in assists per game (2.6) and 11th in field goal percentage (72 percent).
Thornton and the Tribe return to action when they host Howard on Thursday, Dec. 6.
