Scouting the Tribe
The College travels to Boston on Thursday evening with an
overall record of 2-11 and a 0-2 mark in CAA play. On tuesday night, W&M dropped a hard
fought contest to UNCW, 61-52, at Kaplan Arena.
In a game of runs, the College started the second half on a 10-2 blitz
and extended its lead to as many as 14, 40-26, with 14:00 left in
regulation. However, UNCW responded with
a run of its own as it scored the night's final 11 points en route to the
win. Senior
Emily Correal paced the
Tribe with 12 points and eight rebounds, while classmate
Janine Aldridge also
finished the evening with 12 points on four 3-pointers.
Correal leads the W&M attack with 16.7 points per game,
which rank fourth in the CAA. In
addition, Correal's 8.5 rebounds per outing stand fifth in the conference. Aldridge is netting 13.2 points per contest,
which rank ninth in the league. The
Massapequa, N.Y., native is one of the CAA's top threats from 3-point
range. Aldridge ranks seventh all-time
in CAA history with 261 3-pointers, while her 40 trifectas this season are tops
in the conference.
As a team, W&M is scoring 63.9 points per contest, which
ranks fifth in the CAA. Furthermore, the
Tribe has tallied 154 steals on the season which are tops in the league. The Tribe's 84 3-pointers on the season stand
second in the conference, while its 15.4 assists per game rank third.
Scouting the Huskies
Under the direction of seventh-year head coach Daynia
La-Force, the Huskies entertain the Tribe with a record of 8-4 and a 1-0 ledger
in CAA action. The Huskies opened
conference play with a 69-63 win over George Mason. Northeastern, who is 6-0 at home this season,
opened the second-half against the Patriots on a 34-7 run en route to winning
its league opener. Sophomore A'lece Mark
led NU with 17 points, while redshirt senior Kashaia Cannon netted 15 points.
Northeastern's 69.4 points per game rank first in the CAA,
while its scoring defense of 56.2 stands in fourth. The Huskies lead the league in scoring margin
(+13.2), while its field goal percentage (.424) and 3-point percentage (.380)
rank second. Senior Deanna Kerkhof leads
the Huskies with 15.4 ppg, while Cannon is pouring in 12.5 per outing. Kerkhof's 3-point percentage (.451) is tops
in the CAA, while she ranks seventh in scoring.
News and Notes:
- Thursday night's game will be the 10th meeting between the
Tribe and Northeastern, as NU owns a 6-3 series advantage. Last year, in its only match up of the
season, the Huskies prevailed over the Green and Gold, 82-71, in Boston. In the contest, senior Janine Aldridge netted
a career-high 27 points, all of which coming on a W&M single-game record of
nine 3-pointers.
- Senior Emily Correal continues to
cement her stake in the Tribe record books. With her recent double-double
of 20 points and 12 rebounds at Hofstra, Correal now stands fourth all-time in
program history with 21 career double-doubles. Additionally, with her
1,000 career-point at Radford on Dec. 8, she became the 10th fastest player to
reach the milestone in school history (92 games).
- Sophomore point-guard Anna Kestler earned
her first collegiate start at North Carolina A&T and posted career-highs in
assists and steals. Kestler dished out a career-best seven assists, while
recording a career-high five steals against the Aggies.
