WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Jan. 12, 2013) - The
William and Mary women's gymnastics team fell to Towson, 192.025-188.750, in
its season opener on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena.
Highlighting
the Tribe's individual performances were event titles by freshman Brittany Stover (vault), sophomore Brandy Stover (beam) and junior Jessica Pritchard
(all-around).
W&M opened
the meet on vault and posted a 48.150. Competing in her first collegiate meet,
Brittany Stover won the event with a 9.775, while junior Larson Lasek (9.650),
freshman Kristie Wei (9.600), freshman Alyssa Glass (9.575) and senior Jennifer
Ware (9.550) also contributed to the team total.
The College
then moved to bars where it earned a 47.525. Sophomore Maggie was the Tribe's
top scorer and nearly matched her career high with a 9.700. Brittany Stover
also came up big with a 9.650, while Lasek earned a 9.600.
In the third
rotation of the evening, Brandy Stover posted a career-best 9.825 on beam to
place first in the event. Pritchard also performed well and registered a 9.675
en route to helping the team earn a 46.500.
W&M closed
the meet on floor and was led by Lundeen's 9.650. Glass and Pritchard recorded
a 9.550 and a 9.500, respectively, to help the squad post a 46.575.
Pritchard was
the meet's top all-arounder and recorded a 37.800.
The Tribe will
return to action when it competes in a tri-meet at North Carolina (with George
Washington) next Sunday at 2 p.m.
