WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The
William and Mary women's basketball team travels to long-time Colonial Athletic
Association foe James Madison on Thursday, Jan. 17. Tip-off from JMU's Convocation Center is
slated for 7 p.m., and fans can follow the action on JMUSports.com with free

Scouting W&M
The College travels to Harrisonburg, Va., on Thursday night
with an overall record of 2-12 and a CAA mark of 0-3. Last Thursday, W&M was edged at
Northeastern, 71-69, in overtime.
Against the CAA's best scoring offense, the College's defense was stout
throughout as it held the Huskies to 58 points in regulation, 11 below its
season average of 69. After the Tribe
went ahead by four, 58-54, late in the second half, the Huskies rallied to tie
the affair and went on for the overtime win.
Senior Emily Correal is pouring in a team-high 17 points per
contest, which ranks third in the CAA.
Additionally, her 8.4 rebounds per outing stands tied for sixth in the
league. Senior Janine Aldridge is netting
13.7 ppg, which ranks ninth in the conference.
One of the league's most prolific scorers from 3-point territory,
Aldridge ranks first in the CAA with 45 3-pointers. Furthermore, Aldridge ranks fourth in the nation
with 3.46 3-pointers per game.
As a team, W&M is scoring 64.3 points per outing, which
ranks fifth in the CAA. Through 14 games
this season, the Tribe has tallied 170 steals (12.1 per game), which leads the
conference. Sharing the basketball has
been a key ingredient for W&M this season, as its 214 assists on the year
rank second in the CAA. Nationally, the
College ranks 28th in steals and 53rd in assists per game.
Scouting JMU
Under the direction of 11th-year head coach Kenny Brooks,
the Dukes play host to the Tribe with a record of 8-7 and a CAA ledger of 2-1. In their last outing, the Dukes clipped
Northeastern, 68-65, as senior Tarik Hislop's 3-pointer with 2.9 seconds
remaining lifted the Dukes to its second CAA win of the season.
James Madison, which has won five of its last six contests,
is scoring 66.2 points per game, while allowing 59.3. Furthermore, the Dukes rank third in the
league in 3-point field goal percentage (.345), rebounding (42.2) and blocked
shots (4.1). Hislop leads JMU in scoring
(16.0 ppg) and assists (3.4), which rank fifth and fourth in the CAA,
respectively. Junior Kirby Burkholder is
netting 14.7 points an outing, while freshman Precious Hall is tallying 6.1.
News and Notes:
- Thursday night's game will be the 76th meeting between
James Madison and William and Mary, as the Dukes own a 60-15 series advantage. Last season, JMU outlasted W&M, 50-40, in
a defensive affair at Kaplan Arena. The
Tribe stymied JMU to a season low 16 first half points in that contest. Senior Jaclyn McKenna paced the Tribe with 11
points and 11 rebounds in the setback, while classmate Emily Correal chipped in
with 10 points and seven rebounds.
- Senior Janine Aldridge, who is the College's all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 266, is
in range to become W&M's all-time leader in steals. The Massapequa, N.Y., native is just 39
thefts shy of passing Jen Sobota '03 for the all-time mark (257). In the College's last outing at Northeastern,
Aldridge set a career-high with seven steals against the Huskies. With at least 16 games remaining in the
season, Aldridge will have to average 2.4 steals per outing to eclipse Sobota. This season, Aldridge is averaging 2.7 steals
per game, which stands second in the CAA.
- Senior Emily Correal ranks second in the CAA with seven
20-point games this season. Correal's
most recent 20-point effort came in W&M's last outing at Northeastern as
she paced the College with 21 points and seven rebounds. Through 14 games this season, Correal has
posted 20-point performances against ECU (21), Pittsburgh (27), Radford (28), Navy
(21), North Carolina A&T (30), Hofstra (20) and Northeastern (21).
- With its recent overtime affair at Northeastern on Jan.
10, the Green and Gold have now played 19 overtime contests since 2000. In addition, three of the tilts went into
double overtime, including last season's, 79-76, victory at Norfolk State.
- Of the Tribe's 12 setbacks this season, seven have come by
seven points or less. Additionally, in
each of those defeats, W&M owned double-digit leads in two contests (UNCW
and Pittsburgh). Furthermore, W&M
owned a second-half advantage in four of the defeats.
- After the contest at James Madison, W&M
will return to Kaplan Arena for a three-game home stand starting with Drexel on
Sunday, Jan. 20. After hosting the
Dragons in a Sunday matinee, the College will welcome Towson (Jan. 24) and Old
Dominion (Jan. 27) to Williamsburg, Va.
